In August of 2006, Leo, my 24 year old quarter horse gelding was diagnosed with arthritis in his right rear leg at the knee. It x-rayed severe enough to send him into retirement. I've owned Leo his entire life. I can't count the number of individuals who have roped, team penned, and done cattle round ups on him.
After much personal research I started him on Stride Free, a product of Green Mountain Nutritional Services, Inc. Attica, NY. Within two weeks of starting use I noticed Leo cavcting in the pasture with the other horses like old times. We kept on using Leo lightly during the fall of 2006.
In the spring of 2007 Leo turned 25. My 11 year old granddaughter begged me to use him in competition. In July at the Ontario County Fair she entered Leo in six game events (barrels, poles, etc.) and placed 2nd in all 6 events. In August at a large junior youth rodeo in P.A. she and Leo entered five speed events (barrels, poles, etc.) and placed 2nd through 4th in all of them. In September at an excellent game show at the Hemlock Fairgrounds she and Leo placed well in all 5 speed events. With that I've retired Leo from competition but not from sensible use.
Finally, at the diagnosis of his athletic problem, I fully expected to just keep Leo comfortable. I never dreamed he'd be turning cattle, barrels, poles and a whole lot of heads.

P.S. Leo is like many horses who don't like powdered additives in their feed. To counter act this I first drip a small amount of black strap molasses in his grain bucket. I then mix Stride Free in his grain and pour in his grain bucket. He never fails to consume all !
